November News - November 18, 2008

“In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.” (Albert Camus)

I thought of you last night as I left work to find I had missed the first real snow-- the one that after weeks of small flurries, finally sticks to your car and shoe laces and hair. It isn't that I had forgotten you or that I haven't wanted to write... but where does one find extra hours in the day? I have often wondered if we all teamed up and ran to the east at the same time, would our tiny feet slow the earth just enough to make the afternoons longer? And is there a way to only do it on Sundays (which are the best days for long afternoons)?

I am busy as always, but I will be playing two very, very short sets this month. I do hope to see you. If not, I wish you the happiest and fullest of Thanksgivings. The kind that leaves you sleeping in front of the television, one button shamelessly undone on your pants. If you find the time this holiday season, definitely go see “MURDERERS” at Next Act Theatre (www.nextact.org). It is brilliantly done and a wonderful break from the usual holiday productions.

As always, keep your feel on the ground. There are children on other planets that don’t even have gravity.

Love,
lisa

October News - October 4, 2008

Hey there.

It's been awhile since you've gotten one of these monthly updates from me. The first reason is that not a whole lot has been going on. The second reason is that I've been working hard settling into my new full-time job. Thanks for being patient while I became a grown-up.

As I write this, I am at work (yes, I'm occasionally required to work on Saturdays) and I've realized it isn't working on Saturday that's the problem--it's getting up at 7am that starts to get me down. Especially now as the morning temperatures dip below freezing and I find it nearly impossible to coax my poor bare feet out of bed and onto the cold hard wood floors.

I've got a few shows coming up. I hope you will join me for one or two or three of them. And perhaps we can have a cup of coffee and play a game of scrabble and learn more about one another... and together we can remember to put on socks before we go to bed.

Keep listening.
Love,
Lisa Gatewood

Best Of Milwaukee - August 13, 2008

Hey there all you devoted Milwaukeeans (?)

The Shepherd Express has posted the ballots for "The Best of Milwaukee 2008". You can vote online or find a ballot in your weekly paper. This is a great opportunity to recognize your favorite local people & places.

Find the online ballot here: http://www.expressmilwaukee.com/flex-76-best-of-the-city.html

If you're having trouble thinking of who to vote for, you can never go wrong with local greats like Heidi Spencer (acoustic/vocalist), Matt Hendricks (Blues Musician), Keith Pulvermacher (Acoustic/vocalist), Brady Street Futons (Futon Shop), The Love Monkeys(Cover/Rock Band), Random Maxx (Cover/Rock Band), Kurt Bauer (Bassist) & Stephen Gaulke (Drummer).

But these are just my suggestions. Vote for your favorite (even "create your own option")!

Happy Voting.
Love,
Lisa
